One of my all time favorite candies are cinnamon bears. I go in phases where I will buy an entire bag and refuse to share with anyone in the family. You know, because I'm super generous like that. Anyway, this story begins way back last August. The boys and I went on a trip to visit my parents for two weeks and left hubby home alone to work. We missed him so much, but he actually missed us way more because things were pretty quiet around the house. A few days after our joyful reunion when hubby was back at work and we were settling back in, I was admiring how well he had cleaned the house while we were gone. I was scoping out his under the bed organization when I saw a plastic grocery sack under his nightstand. Of course I didn't even hesitate in taking it out and peaking inside to see what he was hiding. Imagine my excitement when I found a 5 pound bag of cinnamon bears! I knew that in missing us so much he had been overcome with a fit of romance and had bought my favorite candy to surprise me with in the future. I carefully put it away and waited for his surprise.
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Occasionally I would check--they were still there--but he hadn't opened the package and given me any. I was perplexed. What in the world was he saving them for?
I waited
and waited
and waited some more.
Until finally...Valentine's day hit. I knew he hadn't gone to the store and since we were doing small gifts I wasn't surprised when he said he had to go to the bedroom and get something for me. "This is it!" I thought, "Only 7 months later and I am finally getting my cinnamon bears!"
Except when he came back from the room he had a tiny little cellophane package of cinnamon bears and a card.
"Are you freaking kidding me?" I thought. I knew he had a 5 pound bag sitting in that room and he had just opened it up and partitioned a handful out to give to me 7 months later. I was done waiting. This is when I decided to put my plan into motion. I decided that if he wasn't going to share the ginormous bag, I would start buying bags of my own to see how long it would take him to break down and admit that he had them.
The first time I bought a bag he just watched as I ate them. "Bought a bag of cinnamon bears I see," he said. "Yep, there just wasn't enough in that little bag you gave me so I bought more," I said. "Hmm." he said.
After that over the next few weeks, I bought a few more bags. Each time he would make a comment and I would just happily eat them and refuse to share. "This is my candy!" I would say. "You guys can have something else."
Finally one night hubby hit his breaking point. "I'm having some!" he declared when I refused to share, "and I'll show you why!" He marched indignantly into our room while I followed trying not to laugh. "Why?" I asked innocently.
"Because of THIS!" he proclaimed, grandly pulling out the 5 lb. bag and dumping it on the bed. I erupted in laughter, "Yeah I know," I said. He stopped. "You what?" "I knew," I laughed, "you've had it under there for forever and it was driving me crazy." His triumphant look started to fade, "So you bought all those bags knowing that I had this under my dresser?" I couldn't stop laughing as he just stared at me for a second completely dumbfounded, and then began laughing. "Got you," I said. And we both sat and watched t.v. and pigged out on cinnamon bears for the rest of the night.
Love you honey! Next time, don't wait 8 months to fess up!
