Preacher, choir

I had to go to the dentist this morning for my bi-annual checkup--something I dread doing every six months. Unfortunately, little G has a really bad cavity that we have been watching, so we asked if they could check him out once my appointment was over. Surprisingly he was really good. He let the dentist look at his teeth and even agreed to have his teeth x-rayed. When they tried to put in the little plastic things for him to bite on, though, they were too big and he kept gagging and spitting them out. We ended up leaving without any x-rays and a recommendation to go to a pediatric dentist. As we were driving we had a few conversations about the dentist and how we were going to go to a special dentist for kids. This is the conversation that we had while making lunch:

G: We're going to go to a real dentist.
Me: Oh, was that not a real dentist?
G: Nope. He was terrible.

Preacher, choir, kid. Preacher, choir.

Arggh!

I have worked off and on all day trying to make our blog look cute, and just when I think its good I will switch computers and it looks weird on one of them. So I apologize if it looks dumb on your computer--it looks nice on our dinosaur P.C. downstairs and wrong on our Mac upstairs.

Darn technology.

Just for fun

Because that last post was a real downer, I thought I'd add this one to cheer everyone up. We just watched this movie called "Be kind rewind" that I actually got a pretty good kick out of. Anyway, you can go to their website and add yourself to a movie cover--it's kind of fun.

Here's the website: http://www.bekindmovie.com/swede_yourself.html

Phobic

I've been thinking about being afraid a lot lately--mainly because it seems like I feel uneasy a lot of the time. Part of this thinking was initiated by little G who came into our room crying at 1:30 in the morning the other day. He told me the next morning that we had, "scary things in our room," but then we helped him and he felt better. We had a little conversation about scary things and I told him that I get scared sometimes too. He wanted to know what I was scared of, but I tried to explain that most of the things I am most scared of are things that probably don't appeal to a two year old. (Also, I didn't want to add a long list of things to his potential fears. I mean, right now he has no idea of the horror of vampires. I really don't want to be responsible for that one.)

This line of thinking then precipitated a conversation with hubby where I asked if he thought I had a phobic personality. He jokingly rattled off a few of my fears and when I answered yes to all of them came to the strong conclusion that I indeed must. I'm not sure if I am a phobic, just a worrier, or just a mom, but I love my husband and son so much it seems like everything that might affect them negatively scares me. What do I mean by everything?

1. plane crashes
2. car crashes
3. car roll overs or inattentive drivers that might not see a small child
4. my child being of driving age and being an inattentive driver that might not see a small child
5. heights
6. for that matter, anything that may involve a head injury--now I realize that people think I am super over protective here, but if you had heard the stories I have heard and sat through the classes on the brain and trauma that I have sat through, you might want to put a permanent helmet on your child as well.
7. water (near my son)
8. pedophiles
9. kidnappers
10. choking
11. SIDS--I still have to check his breathing every night
12. any sort of potential problem with my new little baby
13. something traumatizing happening to me while little G watches and can't do anything to help
14. teaching G that he needs to be obedient and respectful but at the same time that he can stand up for himself and tell people to back off and leave him alone if he needs to
15. that G won't have friends or will be rejected or ostracized at school (which he isn't old enough for--but I worry)
16. that we won't teach him well and he will have problems with morality and other addictive behaviors--or that he will choose those things and we will have to watch him destroy his life

I know, I know, the kid is three. I guess the thing I didn't realize about having a child is how much your life stops being your own after you have one. You literally live your life for someone else which suddenly opens up an entirely new realm of potential problems because you can't bubble wrap that other person and make sure they are safe all the time. So I guess I am doomed to sleepless nights worrying and trying to think of ways to keep my family safe. Until then, if you notice my husband and son are wearing a helmet and full body pads while walking around the mall, just assume they are waiting for me while I am in Banana Republic.

Sad or Funny?

Yesterday while eating dinner:

(Amid a number of other ramblings I can't remember...)

G: "...Jesus."
Me: "What about Jesus, honey?"
G: "He's not normal."
Me: "Oh, well, yeah. Why not?"
G: "Because he wants to talk and listen to me. He's not normal."

Maybe it's a little sad and funny. In our defense, he inherited both his father's and my ability to talk until your face melts off.

Bring it

So we copied this off of my cousin's blog. We thought it was so funny, we had to see what our scores were.

This is Male B's score!

Here is Female B's score!

Apparently we have weaker moral compasses than she does.

Question

Can I still be an American and say that I am sick of hearing about Michael stinkin' Phelps?

He is amazing.

He is tall.

He eats lots of food.

He is like a normal 23 year old in a lot of ways other than his freakish ability to swim.

We get it.

Can you imagine the potential ego on this kid? I can just hear him, "I'm so special, people want to know whether I fold or crumple my toilet paper when I go to the bathroom."

No, I do not. Please NBC, spare me.

Fancy Dancey Pants

G has turned into quite the dancer. He does this all the time and it cracks me up!

Umm, Stuff?

So here are some random pictures and things that really don't go together in any coherent way but I thought I'd post anyway.

Little G took this picture of me right after our showers. I actually think it's one of the best of me this summer--future photographer on our hands?

Here is a picture of our mutant garden--our plants are enormous. We're not really sure what's going on. Maybe it's attack of the killer tomatoes and they are planning a revolt. We have about a zillion zucchinis, by the way. Come by if you like zucchini bread.

Here are our tomatoes and beans.

B wouldn't shave his beard for forever. When I finally demanded (the day we were leaving for his father's wedding) a reason for why he wasn't shaving, he explained that he wanted to shave it in various stages and have me take pictures of it. Boys are so weird. So here is stage 1--full facial.

Stage 2--only the sides shaved offStage 3--sides and chin

Stage 4--creepy cop moustacheStage 5--Normal

Here's little G throughout the whole process...

Wedding

We just got back from my sister's wedding in Oregon. It was a very long and tiring drive, but the wedding was beautiful. My mom and sister put a TON of time into everything and I think it turned out perfectly. Here are a few candid shots of the day--sorry they are really out of order but I can't get the pictures to move around very well. I'm sure you are all smart enough to figure it out! :-)

Coming out of the temple.
Aren't they cute?
A close-up of the bouquet
When the photographer asked for siblings, my sister said she wanted B (hubby) in the picture too! I thought it was really nice that she thinks of him like that. Do you like how my belly covers half of her?
Here is a picture of both families at the reception.
Little G and his uncle N going for a walk.
This was the kids' favorite part--the do it yourself candy favor bar.
Just one of the many cool table toppers.
G getting a little talking to (and a bribe, probably).
The cake (I brought some home!)
Our family
They took special pictures with G who refused to smile like a normal human being.
Our family (part 2).
