Sometimes I make stuff

So I guess now I think I'm some sort of pioneer or something because I am trying to make everything myself. Seriously, I think Hubs is a bit worried I've gone around the bend. This newfound pioneerness (I'm making that a word) is precipitated by 4 things:

1. I hate spending money.

2. Making something just gives you a cool sense of accomplishment.

3. Sometimes I don't leave my house for days at a time. Last week it was three. Then I flipped out. Yes please come, you stupid never ending winter.

4. I am a bit contrary and sort of have a weird sense of humor. (Like when my mom rolls her eyes at my pioneerness, it just makes me want to do it more!)
So I made Miss H this dress

And I made this one for myself

I think combined they probably cost me $5-7 and I made up the patterns and everything.

Eat that non pioneers.

Sunday I made homemade bread, a roast with potatoes and carrots, cake, and home made laundry detergent. We didn't eat the laundry detergent. Just clarifying.

I did do it all inside with modern conveniences. I suggested building a huge cooking fire outside and Hubs said it would be awesome. See these mixed messages he sends?

Does this post sound braggy? It's because I am pretty awesome. I mean sometimes when I'm in line at the store behind a lady I saw putting gas in her Mercedes I think to myself, "Well are you wearing homemade clothes? I think not." I'm pretty sure they're really jealous. It's ok, I'm used to it.

So anyway, don't feel too bad if you aren't awesome at this stuff yet. Just give it a few years and maybe you will be pioneery like me. We can wear our bonnets to church together. Call me.

Oh Miss H...

Sometimes I think about Miss H growing up and telling me that she is fat, or ugly, or has terrible hair, or hates herself in any manner of stupid ways. It kills me every time.

Miss H, you are beautiful in every way. I love every part of you--even the sassy parts. Please know this.

And please help me to teach it to you.

Love, Mom

Last night....

E, standing outside our door when he should have been in bed...

"Dad. Get out here. I have to slap your butt."

At least I was safe.

First Day of School! First Day of School!

I can't believe that G is finally old enough to go to kindergarten. He has been ready for a year (he barely missed the deadline last year) so he was so excited that his turn has finally come.
Of course we had to take about a billion pictures. I'm sure Miss H will just get a handshake and a shove out the door. Poor younger children. Anyhoo...
G was really into his little photo-shoot. Here is him pretending to walk to school. Oh and as a fun Where's Waldo, try to pick out how many pictures his siblings managed to sneak themselves into. They were bound and determined to be part of this day as well.
 Case in point.

With or without you...with or without you...I can't live...
Oh sorry, I just couldn't stop the music in my head.

Don't they look so cute when they aren't being little monsters?
Here we all are actually leaving for school. Notice that E has his backpack too? This will soon become a BIG problem.

This is where I started to get all misty. Watching my two boys walk off together without me just seemed like too much foreshadowing.

The minute we got into the classroom, G hung up his backpack. Then E hung up his backpack.
G sat down at a table to play with play-dough and wait. E sat down at the table to wait.
I practically had to drag the poor kid out of there kicking and screaming. Between him and Miss H, it was pretty much decided that we weren't going to be walking G everyday or else we were going to end up blacklisted from the school.
One final blurry parting shot. You can't tell but G was looking a little nervous.

It's been 3 days now and G is loving it. He feels so grown up and loves to walk by himself to school. I'm proud of him and can't believe how big he is. Also, it's nice to get to spend a bit more one on one time with the other two. It's amazing how much easier and quieter things seem with just two.

Then again, today after G left I told E that I was going to put Miss H down for a nap and then we would snuggle and take a nap together. I put Miss H down and came out to find E missing and the front door ajar. Panicked that he had taken off down the street to "go to school" I swung the door open to reveal him standing with his pants down around his ankles peeing in the middle of our front lawn. His explanation? "Mom, I had to pee in the grass."
Just trying to raise everyone's property values. I know we bring a touch of class to the neighborhood, you're all welcome.

Anyway, we sure miss G, but we are happy for him to progress and enter this new stage of life. And well, I am thankful that E isn't in diapers anymore, so that is something too.
