When I was a kid I remember watching an episode of Doogie Howser where he was talking to his friend on the phone, when he (Doogie) realized that the friend was eating in the bathroom. It's been too long to remember the actual wording but I remember Doogie (understandably) expressing his disgust at such a filthy habit.

Here's the thing--at the time I really didn't get why it was so wrong. I mean, my mom had done her due diligence and told me not to eat in the bathroom and that it was gross but for some reason I wasn't able to make the connection. The only thing that I could figure out was that it isn't good to put something in your body while you have the other stuff...coming out.

I was reminded of this as I fed E some applesauce today, and had to laugh. In between bites he would start grunting and pushing. Some going in while some was coming out. Doogie would not be happy.

Just so you know, I do understand why it is gross to eat in the bathroom and have for quite some time now. (I'm sure once I postulated that theory to my mom she set me straight.)

More Soccer

G had his last Soccer practice today. My sister and her husband came to watch E for me and to see G play.

Here he is dribbling the ball
I love this picture because he looks so focused.
Doing throw-ins

And at the end they all got medals!! Way to go G!
I'm excited for next spring when he will be old enough to be on a team that really plays. I might have to duct tape my mouth before every game, but I'll be there waving my arms wildly.

Soccer Team

G just started soccer and on Saturday they had their "team" pictures (nevermind the fact that they never play--they only learn the skills).

He tells me after every practice that he is number one and was the winner. In his defense, he is one of the best players out there.
What a cutie, huh?

My Excuse

When you come over to my house and the kitchen is a complete mess just know that it is because this:

is what happens when I try to do the dishes.

The truth about parenthood

Yesterday for dinner we had a really good salad. Trying not to eat it all before hubby came home, I looked over at G's plate and noticed that he hadn't finished his serving. After establishing that he was not planning on finishing it I picked it up to polish it off. As I raised the fork to my mouth a thought occurred to me,

"G, did you lick any of this?" I asked.

"No, Mom." he responded.

"Are you sure?" I asked. "You didn't lick any of it?"

"Oh no, I didn't." he assured me.

Satisfied, I took a couple of big bites.

G then casually stated, "I just licked off all of the salad dressing on the lettuce parts."

Who knew?

This year we finally decided to use our appointed garden spot for something more than growing weeds. We planted pumpkins, zucchini, cantaloupe, and watermelon, and then basically left it alone. This is what it looks like now:
We are champs at growing zucchini (who isn't?) but we sadly weren't seeing any of the others. Imagine our surprise and delight when last week we inspected our jungle and found these:

I never thought I would enjoy gardening so much! Maybe it's because I feel like I get to go shopping in my backyard and I love shopping.

Even E got in on the action:

Mmmm...dirt.

E's age: 10 months
Number of times E has slept through the night: 1
Average number of times E wakes up per night: 2-4 (horrible nights 6-8)

Number of hours in the car traveling to my parents house: 14
Number of days total we were there: 14
Number of days E slept in stretches longer than 3 hours at night: 0
Number of insanely tired mothers: 1

Number of days we have been home: 4
Number of nights E has slept through the night: 3

Verdict? Totally worth it.
