Bits and pieces

Is anyone else tired of messing with their furnace and heat? I think that I have turned the furnace off and on every other day these last two weeks. It is the end of May, time to be warm!!

Also, I rode a bike for the first time in probably 15+ years a couple of days ago. I ran into our fence. Oops. All is well. G got a big kick out of the fact that he is 5 and probably rides a bike better than I do right now.

In other news, E chased G into the kitchen the other day...with the hose. That's right, he sprayed the hose all over the inside of our house. This wasn't nearly as disastrous as it could have been given that 1. it was just water, and 2. I managed to get him stopped before it hit the couch/carpeted areas. Still--seriously, the hose?! Sometimes I daydream about when he is a grown up showing us his brand new house and all of the revenge I could take on him right there. Then I stop and realize what our parents knew long ago--children are the best revenge. So then I daydream that he'll have 10. Just like him. And grandma will always have lots of candy.

Miss H thinks that she can walk and will only go down the stairs like she will walk down them. She climbs onto things then squeals and begs until one of her brothers or I will carry her off. "Why don't you teach her how to get off of things properly and go down the stairs backwards?" you ask. Thanks for the advice. I wonder why I didn't think of that. In fact I wondered that to myself when I caught her on the top of our concrete steps dangling her foot over them as she debated her plunge onto our concrete pad in our back yard. Hmmm. "Why don't you just let her fall?" you may also ask. Because I prefer my children minus brain damage. But if you can get my children to be more obedient by all means please come over and parent them for me. I will eat chocolate and wear silk dresses and then take a nap. This is starting to sound a bit angry. Don't worry, all love here I was just trying to anticipate the advice I would receive.

Anyhoo, it is sunny today so back to my original thought, I will probably have to turn the AC on again. Yeah for sun though--let's get summer going! And yeah for work that we are finally getting done around the house. I will have to update pictures of a bathroom we have finished, we will probably be redoing all of the doors in our house soon, and we are getting yardwork done! Woohoo!

End of random post.

Quoteable quotes

Sorry if you have heard these, but I want to write them down for journaling purposes.

One day I tell G to go wash his hands before setting the table because he was just touching something gross (can't remember what)
Me: We don't want you touching everyone's plate with those yucky hands.
G: (With a mischievous smile on his face) What if I just touch E's plate?

While watching the living scriptures videos where Satan comes to tempt Jesus while he is fasting for 40 days and 40 nights.
(Ominous music and scary ghost-like satan with a creepy voice come on)
G: Satan! I'd recognize that voice anywhere.

E stroking my hair while we snuggle before bed
E: Gramma loves you. You a good boy. You a sweet boy. Good, big friend.

Miss H with a mouth full of food and E screaming
E: The baby broke my hot dog!! (She ate his hot dog bun out of his hand when he wasn't looking)

While I carry E kicking and screaming out of the middle of G's soccer game
E: I NEED SOCCER!!!

When I told G we were going on a little trip but didn't need to pack just yet
G: I'm sorry but I can't help packing. I just love going on vacation!

Oh and the reason why we are going on mini vacation? Maybe you can guess by this conversation yesterday...
G: Mom, tomorrow we need to get me more pants. I only have one pair that has holes all in it (he has gone through about 5 pairs of pants in the last 8 months) and one pair that you are saving for school.
Me: Well I don't want to get you more pants because it's supposed to get warm sooner or later and then you can wear shorts. So maybe if you want to fix your pants problem you should pray to Heavenly Father that he will make it be sunny for once.
G: (Snorts as I leave the room) Heavenly Father can't control the weather.

Forgot one:
We were all at Grandmas house the other night and G and E were running around and G tripped and wacked his face on the floor and got a bloody nose.  After a few minutes he was good as gold and running around, when all of a sudden he tripped again.  Then we hear this:
G: Oh boy, not again!
We all couldn't stop laughing.

Twinsies

Say what you will but I think being twinsies is super awesome. (Miss H has no choice!)

Oh and Mom, next time you come to visit I'm making you this!
Lemon curd over a no-bake cheesecake layer.
That is all.

Thank you!

For Mother's Day, Hubs gave me a book full of letters and pictures from friends and family. It was such a wonderful, thoughtful gift. I just wanted to say a heartfelt "thank you" to everyone who participated. More than anything it left me with the clear thought that I have wonderful people in my life. Let's all move into a neighborhood together somewhere and hang out all the time, mmkay?

And an additional thanks to Hubs for putting it all together. I know it took him a lot of time and work. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family and friends. I love you all!!!

It's sinking in!

Today I looked in the mirror and adjusted my hair. It was sort of a second nature gesture that I didn't think about until E piped up.

"Pretty mom."

"What?" I said.

"You pretty mommy." E said.

The other day he stroked my hair and repeated, "Sweet mommy. Sweet, sweet mommy."

It's finally starting to pay off! I know he is still a nut and heaven help me if it isn't still frustrating and embarrassing when he does things like run all over G's soccer game or yell, "I'm mad at you Mom." in the grocery store. I know he still gives dirty looks to people and sometimes karate chops his baby sister.

But every day of his life I've told him, "E you're a good boy." And for the last couple of weeks while he hugs me and strokes my hair he repeats right back, "Yeah mom, I a good boy."

And he is.

Updates

It's about time we posted some of the things we are doing around here.

Getting balloons at the grocery store (Hubs HATES this because the kids fight over them). Oh well, when he's home all day, he can decide.
 Making rainbow cupcakes

Fighting over playing on mom's phone
Making cute outfits for the baby

Sitting on Mom's lap all at once
Making more outfits for baby (shirt and skirt)
 Decorating easter eggs
Getting swimsuits from the Easter Bunny
 And candy

Sharing all sorts of wonderful brotherly experiences
 Wearing more homemade clothes
Doesn't she seem thrilled that Mom keeps forcing her into these outfits?
"Please just buy me something at the store you nut!!"
 Brushing our teeth
And doing the dishes in a swimsuit

Have I mentioned lately how much I love the spring and summer? We have worked hard on our house and yard. We've talked to neighbors and played with friends. We've exercised and eaten lots of good food, and it's only May!

Life is good, bring on the sun!

Happy 8th

See this guy? This is about 20 minutes before we got married 8 years ago. Isn't he cute? Doesn't he look so young? Shh, don't tell us we weren't grown up back then, we had no idea.
Thanks for 8 wonderful years, honey. You will always be the best choice I've ever made.
And here's to hoping our daughter finds someone as wonderful as her dad.
