Fun in the sun

We went on a short trip with my sister and her husband this weekend. I think we cured them of any interest in having children any time soon. We sure had fun, though, and they were good sports.
E was obsessed with his uncle "Bleh." This is him waiting outside of the bathroom for him. Not pictured: sticking his hands under the door and constantly wanting to be carried, sometimes while yelling "mine!!!"
Playing in the town fountains.
Walking around the temple grounds. G had to have the sunscreen in the picture.
The older boys went 4 wheeling (E is just in the picture with his best friend). They were gone for an hour and "threw rocks at rocks." I will never understand boys.
Lots of swimming.
Looking good.
And just to make you smile!

Two new skirts

So I used this tutorial and made 2 little denim skirts for Miss H. Isn't she just about the cutest model you've ever seen?
This one was made from an old pair of G's jeans that had huge holes and were going to be thrown in the garbage.
And this one was from some denim I had purchased a long time ago and was left over from other projects.

Since I already had all of the materials these were basically free! I love it!

And one more cute picture just because she's so funny.
What can I say? She is related to me!

Toaster

About 10 or so years ago, Hub's sister worked at Shopko. (*Side note--she was Hub's boss for a few months and got to order around her older brother. Younger sibling dream job!) Anyway, sometimes things would get misplaced in the back or overlooked and would end up being clearanced out and consequently incredibly cheap. She bought this toaster for something like 25 cents. She used the toaster for a year or two and then went on a mission and lent it to Hubs to use. He used it for the year we dated/were engaged, and then we kept it when we were married. When she returned from her mission we offered to give it back but she generously gave it to us as a wedding present! :-) We actually received a brand new toaster for our wedding but just held it in reserve for the day that this one would give up the ghost.

7 years later...

A couple of months ago, one of the sides stopped working. Never fear, we continued to use this old toaster. (I mean heaven forbid we don't get our 25 cents worth.) Then last week I couldn't get the other side to work. It suddenly hit me--for months I had been using this dumb toaster on only one side but I had a 7 year old brand new single side toaster down in my basement.

I decided to finally take a walk on the wild side and bust open that puppy. TADA!
I chucked the old toaster in the trash. Then would you believe I felt a little guilty and wondered if I could coax a little more life into it and was just being wasteful?

Stuff like this makes my mom crazy. Like the time that I decided not to buy the 33 cent knee highs because I already had something else that I could rig and didn't need to spend the 33 cents.

I can feel my mom and Hubs shaking their heads riiiiiiiight....now.

This time, a self inflicted cut.

I dropped the ball again and dared to take a nap while there were scissors in the world. This was the result.

Of course this would happen prior to a family wedding. Lovely.

Still, at least he is a boy. I'm sure it won't be as amusing when this happens to Miss H.

How was your Sunday morning?

Yesterday I woke up to G telling me that E was awake. (Hubs was at work.) I pulled myself out of bed and looked at the clock. 8:30!! What wonderful children! I couldn't remember the last time I slept so long. I walked into the boys' room and a horror scene unfolded before my eyes.

"E pulled off his diaper." G very much UNDERSTATED.

There E stood, no clothes or diaper. A giant wet pee mark in the middle of the crib and a pile of poo to the side of that.

E noticed me and held up poo smeared hands, "Yucky! Eww, yucky!" he exclaimed as in his attempt to clean them he smeared them all over his body and the crib.

Happy Sunday! We started out with a bath and laundry. How about you?

*I thought I'd spare everyone a picture. You're welcome.

How to save yourself $24

Sometime in the spring, I saw this dress at GAP.
I loved it! Eyelet is just one of those things that I can't get enough of. When I saw the price tag, though, I couldn't justify it. I believe it's original price was $30. (Seriously, I don't get why stores think that I want to spend $30 on something my kid will grow out of in 3 months!?!!?)

So I decided to take matters into my own hands and re-create the dress on my own. I bought a white onesie on sale at Old Navy for 2.99. (Note: I wanted a cute girly one and not just a plain gerber one since this was for a fancy dress. The onesie has puffed sleeves and buttons that you probably can't see in the picture.) Then I used a coupon at Joanns and bought about a yard of eyelet for 40% off and spent another 2.99. I cut the onesie in half, cut and gathered the eyelet and sewed the two together.
Bing badda boom--a pretty good replica for $6. Man, I love doing stuff like that! Oh and Mom, when she wore this outfit to church, all the ladies stopped me to compliment her shoes. Haha! A girl has to start her shoe collection early I suppose.

If there was any question as to who H's parents were before, let me resolve those doubts.

H--say public library!!
Heck, say public program in general!

And what did you say your favorite song was, Axel F?
Dad says that's your favorite song if you are really cool.

Which she clearly is.

Finally, An E Quote

Today while watching the movie Cars, E started yelling and pointing at the screen:

"YOU ARE A CAR! YOU ARE A CAR!"

Just in case they were having identity issues.
